Procedure for the efficiency analysis of NRG system on site

Selecting the best location for installation, required analysing equipment and the measurement procedure.

Selecting the best location for installation

NRG system can be installed on any energy-consuming site downstream of the step-down transformer. The choice of a unit is conditioned by the maximum power consumption on the site. The best point for installation is the closest to the step-down transformer.

Analysing equipment

To evaluate the energy saved after the NRG system was mounted on the site, measurements should be taken. The examples of the equipment used for this purpose are listed below:

  • FLUKE 434 (435) — power quality analyser (USA);
  • HIOKI 3169-20 (21) — power quality analyser (Japan);
  • YOKOGAWA CW240 — power quality analyser (Japan);
  • CHAUVIN ARNOUX C.A. 8335 — power quality analyser (France);
  • KYORITSU KEW 6310KYORITSU KEW 6310 — power quality analyser (Japan).

Analysis procedure

  1. Prior to the installation, data on the power consumption is collected on the site: (one measurement per 15 minutes recommended). To ensure that, one of the power quality analysers listed above is installed on the site to take the following measurements (once every 15 minutes):

    • Voltage;

    • Current of every phase and neutral;

    • Active power;

    • Reacting power;

    • Complex power;

    • Power factor (cos phi);

    • Voltage, current and power of the 3rd, 5th, 7th harmonics.

    Pre-installation measurements take a total of 15-20 days.

  2. After that, collected data is analysed and the diagram of power consumed before the installation of the system is drawn.

  3. When the analysis is completed and the agreement on the installation of the NRG system is made, the system is installed on the site.

  4. Then, it takes 20-30 days to collect data on the power consumed on the site after the system was installed (one measurement every 15 minutes).

  5. The data collected before and after the installation of the NRG system is analysed.

  6. The analysis report of the energy saved is drawn.

* it is necessary to take into the account uneven energy consumption on certain sites making it difficult to evaluate efficiency.
